Several dear friends of our family, located in Canton, Ohio recently lost everything they own as a result of a very unfortunate situation. The mother, father and eight year old little boy (who is bright, precious and precocious!) kept getting ill and couldn't figure out why. They finally had the house they were renting tested and the results found they were living in a home contaminated with mold at levels hundreds of times acceptible levels. They were forbidden from ever going back into the home again and thus lost everything they owned. Physically, they are feeling better every day. Both adults work, but do not produce the kind of income that would allow them to replace what they've lost. They are taking legal action against their landlord, but that could take years to pan out in the courts and they are in need right now. School is right around the corner for the little boy as well. Last year he missed 24 days of school due to an "unknown illness." Now we know why. The best way to help, according to the family, is to donate gift cards to them from Wal-Mart, Target, etc. as this would allow them to shop modestly and replace whatever they can when they can.
